InnoK's research, experimentation and methodology laboratory
Living Lab explores the question of how research becomes usable knowledge — and how knowledge becomes a solution tested in a real-world environment.
Our mission
From knowledge to solution
Living Lab is one of the three laboratories of the InnoK Knowledge Management Institute. While Urban Lab develops urban systems and Civic Lab involves residents in decision-making, Living Lab stands on the side of knowledge: it gathers, organises and makes accessible what research uncovers.
But knowledge alone is not enough. The essence of the “living lab” approach is that we test ideas in a real-world environment, together with users — what works is not decided at the desk. And we share the results in a freely accessible Knowledge Base, so that no one has to start from scratch.
“Where we test the future.”
The ecosystem
InnoK's three laboratories
The same institute, three different perspectives. Urban systems, methodology and participation can only work effectively together.
Urban Lab
Together we create the liveable cities of the future. Urban, economic and local development.

Our operating principles
Living Lab's work is defined by three principles that apply to every research and development process.
Real-world environment
We examine solutions where they also have to work in practice. Developments, pilots and tests take place not in an isolated laboratory setting, but in real situations.
Co-creation
The development of solutions involves all stakeholders. The knowledge of researchers, experts, institutions, businesses, users and other stakeholders is present from the very start of the development process.
Iteration
We feed the lessons of testing back into development. We measure, evaluate, learn, adjust, and then re-test where necessary.
Community
The Living Lab community
Living Lab is not the closed laboratory of a single organisation. It is a professional community built on the collaboration of researchers, experts, institutions and practitioners. Connecting different kinds of knowledge is what allows us to examine problems from multiple perspectives and to test solutions in a real-world environment.
